Abstract

This article outlines the origins and evolution of conference interpreting in the interwar period, between the 1919 Paris Peace Conference to the 1945-46 Nurmberg Trials. It examines the evolution of conference interpreting as a profession and the transition from the 'golden era' of consecutive interpreting to the beginnings of simultaneous interpreting in booths in complex multilingual settings.
